Speed and Dreams – Teen Racer Charlotte Philp Takes on the Tracks

Writer: Devaki BDevaki B

Hailing from the heart of Western Australia, 15-year-old racer Charlotte Philp is set to gear up for an exciting year ahead in motorsport, her passion dating back to when she was very young. Initially a motorsports photographer, her racing journey started in July 2023, when she fell in love with the sport and adrenaline, fueling her desire to improve and develop her skills. She competed in her first race after only racing for 3 weeks, expressing her interest in wanting to turn this passion into a career. Amongst the many memorable moments she shared in her early racing career, one moment that she vividly remembers is standing on the podium, at the Hurricane Kart Club. As her first race at the club, she mentioned how incredible an achievement it was for her, only experiencing that specific track once. She felt it was an amazing experience through the highs and lows, enjoying every moment.

However, managing racing with school and friends is not an easy feat, but the support she has from her communities helped tremendously. The encouraging and friendly environment she has experienced within go-karting reinforced her view on the culture of the racing world, as she appreciates all that her community has done to help her get to where she is today. When race day approaches, Charlotte always enjoys the exciting atmosphere, making sure to focus on the race ahead to ensure she can secure a strong result.

“It is such a good vibe at the track; catching up with everyone, having some good competition and clean racing! On race days, I make sure to cut out all distractions and focus on the races ahead of me to ensure I get my best results and have full concentration.”

One of her biggest inspirations in racing is the New Zealand racing driver Madeline Stewart, who raced in the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America Series in 2023, a competition that Philps hopes to reach in the future.

“Being able to look up to her and following her journey has made me more motivated to do well and keep pushing!”

Furthermore, she aspires to race in the Radical Cup Australia, before moving into Porsche and GT racing internationally. Her sights are set on the Radical Cup, the event a dream of hers for many years and a big goal for her as she progresses up the racing ladder.

Her account @charlyyypp contains racing announcements and live updates so that viewers can follow along on her racing career. In a new partnership with BA Equipment for the 2024 season, she hopes for an exciting and successful season, as another rising challenger in the motorsports industry.
